Lessons in Persistence

Hi everyone! I’d like to share one of the defining moments of my life with you today. This experience has helped shape who I am and what I can accomplish.

When I was 16, I went on a survival trek that truly tested my limits and my resolve. We were to hike 15 miles a day, and our trek took us through miles of slogging through water and trudging through the endless sands of the desert.

On the last day, we started a hard trek after our watering hole had dried up. Our counselors ran ahead of us to assess the situation, telling us to push on by ourselves. We were left alone for the last 15 excruciating miles. 4 people collapsed during that trek, and I ended up having to tie 2 people to my waist to encourage them to keep up the pace and continue onward without giving up. The five of us walked on, wishing our camp was moving toward us as we trudged toward it.

It was brutal, and we felt truly alone.

My will to move forward was gone for the last 7 miles I was hiking.  The only thing that kept me going was a thought in my head that comforted me and made me feel loved. I felt like I was being watched and protected from afar. After we finally made it to our camp and collapsed,, I has the opportunity to learn that our counselors hadn’t disappeared- they were hiding and watching us! They watched the drama from afar so that we could discover our own potential and grow from the experience.

I’ve often thought about that trip and related it to my own life now. I know that there are truly no limits to what I can do or where my capabilities lie. I know that I can stretch a little further by having faith, putting my trust in my Higher Power, and giving everything to Him.

I’m sharing this story with you all in order to show that there really are no limits on the things that we can accomplish. Sure, it gets stressful and trying at times. No one can deny that. However, the way that we react to life is truly what defines us.

I hope that you all understand that we are children of God, and that it is essential to surround yourself with people that are rooting for you. Such great results can come through faith and persistence.

Whether you apply this to family, your personal interests, or your business; this lesson that I have learned is one that can make a true difference in your life. Never give up, and always keep pushing on. You can always make it!

Have a great weekend!

Observe and Serve in Your Own Way

Hi everyone! Now that fall is here in full force and the holidays are around the corner, I’d like to focus on serving others today. There are a lot of ways that we can help out that make a difference- both with Mary Kay products and services and with our own more personal means.

If you want to use Mary Kay to serve others, consider using product and your skills to give friends and family makeovers, advise them on their skin, or teach them how to quickly do makeup that looks great for the entire day. These are little things, but I promise that the important people in life will appreciate them.

We also can do our parts for our families and communities by performing little acts of kindness, like raking leaves or baking some treats to take to a neighbor. Some of the most satisfying experiences that I have had involve kind acts of service for others, especially when they don’t expect it!

Service is important! I highly encourage everyone to find the things that they can do in their own communities to make a difference. We’ve all had times in life where we appreciated the gestures made by others, so would I think it’s important to do the same for others.

One of the best resources for serious volunteers is the United Way. These amazing people have a lot of service opportunities that they need people for, both temporary and agency based. I am proud to support their efforts.

Have a wonderful weekend!
